- Theft from vehicle (Dulverton)
At about 4.30pm on 28 July 2008 a 58 year old lady left her silver Vauxhall Astra secure in a lay-by on the A396 near Dulverton. She returned some 20 minutes later after walking her dog to find her handbag and contents stolen. PC Adams is advising that wherever possible all property should be removed from a vehicle even if left for a few minutes only. She would also like anyone with information to contact her. At about 6.40am on 28 July 2008 two males travelling in a white van were seen to remove scrap metal from a garage yard at Wheddon Cross. PC Curran at Minehead police station would like anyone with information to contact him.

West Somerset police are warning householders to be aware of some sharp business practices following an incident involving a 70 year old female who was approached by men offering to tarmac her drive. She declined the initial offer but agreed to have some potholes filled. Hours later she discovered her driveway had been resurfaced when she was presented with a bill for £1100. Police are offering some basic advice such as: *Close and lock your back door before answering the front door, *Always apply the door chain or bar before opening door., *Always ask for proof of identity and read it carefully, *Arrange appointments for people to call back when you know you will have someone with you, *If you need work doing, get quotes from reputable companies whose addresses can be confirmed. The police, in company with other partner organisations, including the County, District and Parish councillors, attend quarterly Area Panel meetings, where the public can raise any issue affecting their community or their quality of life. The first item on the agenda is open to hear their concerns. Key agencies will formally action these concerns, responding as appropriate.
